Sorto in epoca di dominazione normanna del Sud Italia (1080-1100) reca affreschi del periodo di fondazione e, nel piano nobile, di fine Seicento e metà Settecento, fatti realizzare dai Marchesi d’Amore, signori di Ugento per 163 anni. Queste ultime rappresentazioni sono una sciarada estetica, concepita per celebrare la concezione del bello che avevano i Marchesi d’Amore e per esaltare il loro grado di conoscenza di storia, miti e leggende dell’età classica.

Castle of Ugento

Settled during the Norman domination of Southern Italy (1080-1100), it has frescoes of the  foundation period, especially in the main floor, of the 18th centuries, commissioned by the Marquises d’Amore, lords of Ugento for 163 years.  These last representations are aesthetic charade, conceived to celebrate the conception of beauty that the Marquis d’Amore had and to exalt their degree of knowledge of history, myths and legends of the classical age.
